Privacy Policy

Introduction

Odeion is a self-hosted media streaming platform. You run it on your own hardware, and your data stays on your hardware. We do not operate any servers that store, process, or have access to your personal information or media library.

This privacy policy explains what information we do and do not collect, the optional services we operate, and how we handle the limited data we may receive through voluntary bug reports.

Information We Do Not Collect

Odeion does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
  • Usage data or analytics (what you watch, when, or how often)
  • Device identifiers or fingerprints
  • Location data
  • Crash reports or diagnostics (unless you voluntarily submit them)
  • Advertising identifiers

There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no background data collection of any kind. While your server may communicate with optional Odeion-operated services described below, these services do not collect personal data or track usage.

Odeion-Operated Services

Odeion provides two optional supporting services. Neither service collects personal data, usage analytics, or telemetry of any kind.

Metadata Service (meta.odeion.app)

Server operators can configure their Odeion instance to fetch media metadata (titles, descriptions, artwork, and ratings) from this Odeion-operated service, which aggregates data from multiple third-party sources. Operators can also configure their server to query third-party metadata providers directly, such as TMDB or TheTVDB.

Regardless of which option is used, only media identifiers (e.g., a movie or series ID) are included in requests. No personal data, user accounts, watch history, or usage information is sent to or stored by either option.

Device Linking Service (link.odeion.app)

When signing into Odeion on a new device, you can use a short code instead of typing your server address and credentials. This code is generated by your Odeion server and temporarily relayed through our device linking service.

Codes are held in memory only, expire after 10 minutes, and are deleted immediately after a single use. No accounts, credentials, or personal data are transmitted through this service. Server operators can disable this feature entirely.

Third-Party Metadata Sources

Depending on configuration, your server may fetch metadata from third-party services such as TMDB, TheTVDB, AniList, and TVMaze, either directly or through the Odeion metadata service. These third-party services have their own privacy policies.

We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services into our apps or server software.

User-Submitted Bug Reports

The only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us voluntarily when submitting a bug report. This may include:

  • Your email address (so we can respond)
  • A description of the issue you experienced
  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • Screenshots or screen recordings you choose to attach
  • Log files you choose to include

We use this information solely to diagnose and fix bugs. We do not sell, share, or use it for any other purpose. Bug report data is retained only as long as necessary to resolve the reported issue.

Self-Hosted Architecture

Odeion is designed to run entirely on infrastructure you control. All of the following data resides exclusively on your server and is never transmitted to us:

  • User accounts and authentication credentials
  • Media files, metadata, and artwork
  • Watch history and playback progress
  • Playlists and user preferences
  • Server configuration and settings

As the server operator, you are responsible for the security and privacy of data stored on your Odeion instance, including the accounts of any users you invite.

App Store Platforms

Odeion apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These platforms may collect their own data in accordance with their respective privacy policies. We do not have access to or control over data collected by Apple or Google through their distribution platforms.

Children's Privacy

Since Odeion does not collect personal information from any users, we do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. The only data we may receive is through voluntary bug report submissions, which are not directed at children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us through a bug report, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
